If you end up developing gum disease, you may think that you don’t have many treatment options left. After all, gum disease is sort of the end of the road for oral infections, right? While gum disease is a serious condition, there are still several treatment options to help halt the disease’s progression and restore your oral health.

Today, we’ll look at a few of the effective gum disease treatments our dentist and team have used at our practice.

Scaling and root planing
One of the most common gum disease treatments that Dr. Pal offers is called scaling and root planing. This treatment involves two procedures, and you may need to visit our practice a few times to complete your treatment. Scaling and root planing involve removing the plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) from the surface of your teeth and roots. By removing the plaque, our team also, by extension, removes the bacteria that causes gum disease. This can help stop the disease from progressing and get your oral health back on track.

Flossing and mouthwash
In addition to receiving professional treatments at Pal Dental Group, it is important that you also take care of your teeth and gums at home. You can do this by flossing between your teeth and a little bit beneath the gum line. Depending on the severity of your gum disease, you may not be able to use traditional floss. In that case, a water pique is a great choice.

While flossing is important, you can use other dental tools, such as mouthwash, to help fight off harmful bacteria. Many mouthwashes contain alcohol, which does a great job of killing the bacteria that cause gum disease.
